Edgewater Renovation

A 3,940 s.f. 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 half bath house for a very tall bachelor and his dog.  The house was a complete gut renovation with the entire rear of the structure removed to accommodate an 888 s.f. addition on four floors. Every room in the house, except for the living room, was reconfigured. Only the radiators and a portion of first floor wood plank flooring were able to be salvaged from the original home which was in great disrepair at the commencement of the project. A third story dormer addition had to be disassembled as well due to lack of structural integrity any record of permit.

Though the home was designed for a single man, it was considered for future family living with two additional bedrooms on the second floor and a generous recreation room complete with wet bar and expansive roof deck off of the third floor.

The kitchen features teak cabinets along with an island countertop made of wheat straw and upper cabinets adjusted in height to accommodate the height of the client. While the home has masculine elements, careful consideration was given to a balance. For example, the kitchen though equipped with darker wood cabinets and countertops, features a very light breakfast alcove surrounded by windows and full exposure to the yard. Also, the windows in the cooking area of the kitchen are painted white with white jamb and sills to enhance the natural light filtering in from the outside and to provide a greater contrast to the cabinets.

Flooring material was carefully considered to accommodate the paws of the large dog and guard against slipping and be fairly dirt resistant (at least visually).

ACA also provided consultation on interiors items such as floor coverings, window treatments, wall coverings, and decorative lighting, as well as some furniture pieces
